Graduation cap tutorial using the set B.Y.O.P (Buy your own present)

This is the cap I made for a friend for her grandson's graduation...she wanted yellow in the picture...so it depends on the school colors...READ THIS ALL THE WAY THROUGH>>>added tassel attachement at end..if any questions or comments, contact me!!!!!

This is what the inside....or underside of the hat looks like....
You start with a 9 3/4 by 4.25 piece of card stock
score it at 5 and a 1/2 ....then turn the shortest end towards the left on the score board
the 5 1/2 line is marked in white....tab the 2 1/8 mark....you are using the diagonal plate...that plate will NOT be in the new catalog in June!!!
Use the sylus to score the diagonal line from the 2 1/8 mark
flip the card over to other side...
and do the same thing...you now have a X with a score line in the middle...you are on the right track so far...the rest is easy peasy....don't you sometimes HATE that word...if you are a non techie you do...ask me I know.....enough of my editorial feedback...lol
the next part...this is the finished piece...what you are going to do at the tip of the 4 1/4 side is find the middle...again 2 1/8....you really have to only remember that number (after the 5 1/2 score line)   Mark it with a pen or pencil....the latter is better...I did in a white gel for camera purposes....and mark the tips of your score line on each side.....like this picture....

Then you will cut from the tick lines you have created....make sure both points that you marked are IN the cutting tunnel.....I usually run my nail in there to make sure.....You will do this on both sides....

and viola...you have your basic card....
Here is the neater, finished card base....

Now onto the tassel......I used embrodiery thread...think yarn is too thick but use what you have....I took a card base and wrapped the emb thread 12x around it....I then took a 6 inch piece and tied it under where my finger is and brought it up to the top and double knotted it...and then clipped where my finger is....

the two strands at the top are the 6 inch piece discussed above....DO NOT CUT THEM OFF...
took another piece of thread and took it about 1/2 to an inch below and wound it around and doubt knotted it and cut it....you should not see that cut off area ...but showing it for camera purposes...
I took a flat yellow button and attached a dimensional to the back of the button..this is attached to the middle of the cap..look at finished pix...
To finish the card I cut a 4 1/8 x 3 1/8 piece for the bottom of the card...for the year to be placed or whatever you desire....and the 2 3/4 square if for underneath the cap....
cut out the numbers from our number thinlets in the occasion mini....yellow or your desired school color...when you attach the numbers , do the 2 and 6 first...makes spacing so easy....
,
I took the grad phrase and stamped it diagonally....both pieces were glued on....hold the pieces diagonally when you place them....it is easier to see if they are straight...guarenteed straight layers....Have a great day!!!
So sorry...I reread this and forgot to tell you how to attach the tassel.....best way is to put it below the dimensional...and/or wrap around below the button and use a little tombow multi glue...cut the tassel so it is shorter than card length..

Graduation card

This was for a lady in my card ministry....she asked me if I could make her 2 graduation cards....they had to have black and yellow in them....she liked them so much she paid me more than I asked....glad she was satisfied......the tassel was made from cross stitch thread....
The fold is an easy one.....the 2016 is from the number edgelits in the occasion mini
If you would like me to do a tutorial on it , let me know...can do picture tutorial or video...need to get back to my videos...guess I get intimidated with ones out there.....under the hat, I used the set...

Picture tutorial for how this was made posted on the 27th.........also video on utube!!

Tower Card ...

This is a very easy card...take a piece of 5.5 by 8.5 piece of card stock and score the piece 2, 4, 6, 8....and after you cut the card stock and DSP for the sides......leave whisper white for the back side in case you want to write a note to the person you are sending it to......it will go in a regular envelope .
Here it is on my Ikea Bulletin Board.....
I just love the simplicity of it.......some people make it with a piece that goes all the way around ...or partly around the tower....personal preference...depends what you like....

I used the flower punch that is retiring.....the petite petal punch would work also...or edgelit pieces..
Used the gel pen for the dots accents...think that really pops the card....thanks to Linda Bauwin for the tutorial!!
